State of the Georgia Junior Golf Foundation Report

The Georgia Junior Golf Foundation was founded in 1974 with support from both the GSGA and the Georgia PGA.  Since its inception, the Foundation’s Mission has been to positively affect youth by promoting interest and participation in the game of golf.  The purpose of the Foundation is to introduce the game of golf and its values to young people in Georgia and to provide opportunities for continued growth and involvement in the game.

Through the years, our message has been delivered in many different manners such as camps, clinics, seminars and tournaments.  The GJGF implemented a new program in 2000 titled the “Junior Golf At Schools Program.”  This program was offered to middle school PE classes throughout Georgia.  In five short years, the Golf at Schools Program was taught at 85 middle schools. As a result, golf has been introduced to over 40,000 middle school students.  This wonderfully successful program is now a model that is being used in many States.

In 2005, the Foundation made a change to the Elementary school level when we began a new initiative in partnership with the First Tee Elementary Schools Program.  We wanted to play a much more active role at that level.  We have been extremely active on the leadership team and are working to increase the number of programs and help with course access for the students.  These programs are now in both Cobb and Gwinnett Counties.

The Junior Golf Magazine is another tool for the Foundation to use in its effort to fulfill its Mission.  The magazine is in its fifth year and is highly anticipated each January!  The magazine offers a great collection of useful information for junior golfers of all skill levels.  We will take you on a journey from where and how to get started playing golf, to instruction, to competitive golf, to preparing for college and how golf can be a part of your future.

The Georgia Junior Golf Foundation continues to explore various fundraising efforts and has gotten legislation passed through the House and Senate to do a golf license tag through the Department of Revenue that is now available.  Please check out our web site or go to your local tag office to get one today and help support junior golf.

The Foundation is very proactive around the state with a variety of different clinics and workshops to give juniors some PGA instruction time and get more juniors to the golf course.
