Golf Associations Working Together
To Help Grow The Game

Representatives from the Georgia PGA, Georgia State Golf Association, Georgia Superintendents Association and the American Junior Golf Association came together again this year a to help raise funds for the Georgia Junior Golf Foundation. The annual fundraiser at Idle Hour Club in Macon was held on March 12th. Idle Hour Club has hosted the fundraising event for over the last 15 years, the 2007 event was their most successful event to date. The event continues to grow each year due solely to the support and effort given by all of Georgia’s Golf Associations.

Several of golf’s major manufactures also chipped in to make the fundraiser a success. Club Car continued to show support for golf in Georgia by sending 8 players to play in the Idle Hour event. Bucky Jenkins and PGA Professional Joe Ingram of Golf Logix also supported the event through sponsorship as well as by providing GPS navigational systems to each foursome. Pete Butt with Titleist provided each player with a sleeve of Pro V1 golf balls.

Over ten Georgia State Golf Association Member Clubs participated in this year’s event. PGA Professional Brian Stubbs from Country Club of Columbus brought 24 players to the event. Coosa Country Club Head PGA Professional Brian Albertson also played a huge part in the success of the event by bringing 12 players. Other participating clubs include; Country Club of Roswell, Golf Club at Cuscowilla, Idle Hour Club, Long Shadow Golf Club, Chateau Elan Golf Club, Atlanta Country Club, University of Georgia Golf Course and Maple Ridge Golf Club .

The Georgia Junior Golf Foundation was founded in 1974 with support from both the GSGA and the Georgia PGA. Since its inception, the Foundation’s Mission has been to positively affect youth by promoting interest and participation in the game of golf. The purpose of the Foundation is to introduce the game of golf and its values to young people in Georgia and to provide opportunities for continued growth and involvement in the game. In the past year, The Georgia Junior Golf Foundation partnered with the First Tee to bring golf to over 33,000 children in 81 schools. Junior golfers in Georgia also benefit from reading The Georgia Junior Golf Foundation’s annual publication; The Georgia Junior Golfer Magazine. The Georgia Junior Golf Magazine provides junior players of all ages and skill levels useful information about upcoming junior events, instruction, college scholarships and numerous other needs to know pieces of junior golf information.

The continued combined efforts of all of Georgia’s different golf associations is the key ingredient to making the state of Georgia a leader in the growth of junior golf.
